Despacito is a song from 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top popular streamed song in the world within six months. In 2017, the single Despacito, which combines reggaeton with pop music has not just brought fresh attention to reggaeton music but also increased interest in Latin music. In 2015, there were two mostly songs with Spanish lyrics on the Billboard Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's chart-topping success in 2017, 19 songs mainly made in Spanish made it to at the very top of 100. This number rose to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. Soon, other artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars like Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019. Certain reggaeton performers have criticized the shift to mainstream music in 2020. However, a brand new band, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the evolution and development of reggaeton. Rauw Alejandro incorporated electronic dance forms as well as other styles into his music.
